5 kWMitsubishi Electric MSZ-EF 5kW Split System
The 5kW Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-EF Designer Split (model MSZ-EF50VG) is sized for living rooms and master suites. As a guide, it cools a room of up to about 36 to 43 m². That is from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries' sizing chart for an insulated room: the larger figure if it faces north, the smaller if it faces east. Western sun, poor insulation and high ceilings bring it down. It is the largest capacity in the Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-EF Designer Split range. For a smaller, well-insulated room the 4.2kW will do the job for less power draw.
Part of the Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-EF Designer Split range, Mitsubishi Electric's split system line, in 4 sizes. Running costs below use the Sydney median rate; the Eastern Suburbs and Western Sydney pages cost systems on their own network tariffs. Check the size against your rooms, compare it with other 5 kW options, see every 5kW split system ranked by running cost, or ask about supply and installation.
About $414 a year at the current Sydney median electricity rate: $153 of cooling plus $261 of heating, from the official GEMS test figures.
The Mitsubishi Electric MSZ-EF 5kW uses 462 kWh annually for cooling and 787 kWh annually for heating under official GEMS test conditions for Sydney's climate zone. These figures reflect typical usage patterns in Sydney and provide a realistic basis for estimating your running costs. The system achieves a rated cooling efficiency (AEER) of 3.22 and heating efficiency (ACOP) of 3.71.
For cooling, the MSZ-EF carries a 3-star energy rating in Sydney's climate zone, while heating receives a 2.5-star rating. The system uses R32 refrigerant. Your actual energy consumption will depend on how often you run the unit, your thermostat settings, and local weather conditions.
