Split System Air Conditioning
Split system air conditioning is the most popular choice for single rooms: a wall-mounted indoor head paired with one outdoor unit. Quick to install, affordable and efficient for bedrooms, living areas and offices.
Split Systems, explained.
How a split system works
A wall-mounted indoor unit pairs with one outdoor unit, connected by refrigerant lines. Reverse-cycle models both cool and heat by moving heat in or out of the room, which is why they heat far more efficiently than plug-in electric heaters.
Choosing the right size
Sizes run from 1.5kW for a study to 10kW for big open-plan rooms. As a guide, allow 0.125 to 0.155kW per square metre of a typical insulated room, then adjust for sun, ceiling height and glass. Undersize and it runs flat out; oversize and it short-cycles and leaves the room humid.
What affects installation
A back-to-back install (indoor and outdoor unit on either side of the same wall) is usually a half-day job. Longer pipe runs, double-brick walls, difficult outdoor unit positions and switchboard work add time, which is why we quote from your photos and details.

Split System questions, answered
How long does split system installation take?
A standard back-to-back installation is usually completed in around half a day. Longer pipe runs, tricky access or electrical work can extend that, and we confirm the scope in your fixed quote.
Do split systems heat as well as cool?
Yes. Every split we install is reverse-cycle, and brands like Mitsubishi Electric engineer specifically for strong winter heating. Reverse-cycle heating is one of the most efficient ways to heat a Sydney home.
How quiet are modern split systems?
The quietest models we install run at whisper levels: Mitsubishi Electric’s MSZ-AP has an 18dB quiet mode and the MSZ-EF runs below 21dB. You will check whether they are on.
What size split system do I need?
Allow roughly 0.125 to 0.155kW per square metre for a typical insulated room: about 2.5kW for a standard bedroom, 5kW for a living room, 7kW or more for open plan. Use our capacity calculator, or send photos and measurements for an exact recommendation.
