Out west you size for the heat, not a Sydney average
Richmond, the reference point for Sydney's 'average' climate zone, averages 30.4°C on summer afternoons and pushes past 40°C on the very worst days, while winter mornings fall to 3.8°C. Without the coastal sea breeze the west swings harder, so we size for the inland load, not a Sydney average.
That extra heat load is real: a unit sized for a Bondi apartment will sit there flat out and still lose the room in a Penrith living area. We size every job for the inland climate so the system actually holds temperature on the worst days, not just the mild ones.

Around 85% of homes out here are separate freestanding houses (ABS Census: 81% in Blacktown, 92% in Penrith), and plenty are double-storey on a proper block. That’s the opposite of the coastal apartment belt.
For homes like these, ducted usually fits best: one system, zoned so you only cool the rooms you’re using and keep temperatures even upstairs and down. Where ducted isn’t on the cards, a few well-placed high-capacity splits do the job.

Do I need a bigger air conditioner in Western Sydney than near the coast?
